 Employee Interview #1

Pressing
Process

Q1. Please tell us about your current job responsibility.

It has been 3.5 years since I started working as team leader at pressing line. I manage production quantity and worker's shift. In order to motivate my team, I try to improve work activities and its environment for them to enjoy working and also safely. I also handle their complaints.
Additionally, I manage work related to general affairs and keep the stock of supplies like gloves.

With regards to workers' education, I try to teach the basic work principle, especially in order to produce in the same way even for all workers of long time and also newly joined. They are so different in the environment they were born and raised so it is very difficult for me to get them to understand the principle but I always try my best with all my heart.

Q2. What do you think the merit and demerit of working at Hidan?

The company is advanced and making progress as time develops. The corporate culture is going forward positively. At pressing line, it used to be extremely hot in summer and cold in winter but the work environment has been suitably improved. The benefits program they offer is great, too.

Q3. What do you think you have learned at work? Also, do you have your
       own good policies at work?

I leaned a lot because I could work as supervisor position at actual production line.
Just after joining at Hidan, I was assigned to the section for pressing equipment management. There were so many problems with the line for metal sleeve but I was put in charge of the Kaizen with responsbility.

Q4. Please tell us about your challenging and worthwhile experience at work.

When I work on Kaizen with operator, as the first step, I go to the actual line and try to grasp the real situation well. Even running into the problems without any good experience and knowledge before, now I know they can be resolved if I can seriously put my mind to it, which gave me quite confidence.

Q5. Please tell us about your goal or dream for the future.

My goal is to get a higher management job in the future but for now I would like to enhance my management skills for pressing and corporate management skills.
As a trick to improve the quality, I believe quality comes first on the factory floor. It is very important that we work exactly as the operation manual. I am always thinking about how I can work better with workers to do so.

In addition, I believe it is essential that working together with not only with operators but also Engineering Group, mold department, quality control department and so on, people of multiple groups in a cross-sectoral manner.

Assembly
Process

Q1. Please tell us about your current job responsibility.

I am involved in Kaizen in the assembly department and problem solving on the factory floor.
Adjusting machinary, investigation, trial on the new products, day to day Kaizen and getting some opinions for Kaizen. I also play a role to communicate with other departments like Engineering Group.
Also, doing Kaizen on the productivity and safety.
This is my fourth year since I joined Hidan. I used to do machinary adjustment and standardization first.

Q2. What do you think the merit and demerit of working at Hidan?

Before joining Hidan, I worked for sole proprietorship that manufactures some motors. Compared to Hidan, they did not have any standard operation procedures, which gave me hard time then.
At Hidan, we have clear standard operation procedures so that we can make good products by just following the procedures.
In addition, I also like that Hidan takes extra care of the safety of workers.
Assembly is the very last process so sometimes we have some hard times with handling mistakes in the previous processes. But we try to solve them through good communications.

Q3. What do you think you have learned at work? Also, do you have your
       own good policies at work?

Once in a while, I come to think I would like to learn more about Japanese technology.
Once I had a challenging problem in burring process. In the beginning we had some dificulties but in the end came up with an idea and made it work.

Q4. Please tell us about your challenging and worthwhile experience at work.

I came up with my own idea and made it work.
Full responsibility on me, which is very challenging and worthwhile doing it.

Q5. Please tell us about your goal or dream for the future.

My future goal is I would like to make much better work environment through studying more on my own.
I would like to contribute by providing new ideas more often.

I would like to play a major role in assembly department in the future.
When I work with my team to improve the effeciency, sometimes just increasing production quantity (for example, assemble 200 pieces more from usual 1,000 pieces) is not enough.
I try to teach the need of increasing the productivity, not increasing the workload by making necessary communication such as explaining job descriptions and making better work environment through Kaizen and standardization.

Additionally, I am trying to achieve uptime ratio of 100% and good products ratio of 100%.
Some workers might think just one defective product is okay but the one defect actually means more for the customer. I would like to acheive 100% good products with my team by keeping their motivation high.
I studied some technical knowledge on pressing, machining, drawing and dimensional tolerance at school. I would like to make the most of these knowledge in the future.

QA department

Q1. Please tell us about your current job responsibility.

I conduct check-up on new molds and also patrol the factory floor.
With a new product running, I do quality traceability, analysis and tests on the parts.
Now as sub team leader, I have some people working under me but it has been just one month so I am still learning how to manage.

Q2. What do you think the merit and demerit of working at Hidan?

The most imprtant thing is we have stable flow of orders from our customers.
I am away from my home town working here so my job is secure enough not to worry about unemployment, which is very comforting and I can concentrate on my work. Additionally, I think the company benefits program is decent enough even though I can not compare with others because I have never worked for other companies.
I feel there are full of workers education in place and opportunities to learn more and improve myself.

Q3. What do you think you have learned at work? Also, do you have your
       own good policies at work?

I specialize in the analysis and investigation on the problems of aluminum parts. Sometimes just measuring dimensions does not help to solve. By tackling multiple problems and experiencing new things, I need to make hypothesis and get to the bottom of the problem. Recently I have come to realize how difficult it is.

Q4. Please tell us about your challenging and worthwhile experience at work.

I feel this job is worthwhile especially when I investigate the quality and can verify my hypothesis.
So far I have not had any big problems that can not be solved through the cooperation of my boss and team members.

Q5. Please tell us about your goal or dream for the future.

I appreciate the company recognized my work and now I became a sub team leader. I would like to study more, make the quality better and implement cost reduction.
There are still some difficult problems for me so I think I will have to stduy more.
From now on, I would like to learn how to do quality control and also study how to manage my people in the team.
